When your event is flawless… but the energy isn’t
If you’re an event planner, or have ever planned even one event, you probably know this feeling…
You’ve done everything right. The venue works, the schedule is tight, the speakers are good. And still… the room feels a little flat. And it isn't just the post lunch drowsiness.
People are there. They’re listening. But they’re not really in it.
I think about that a lot. Not just because of the work I do, but because I’ve sat in those rooms too. You can feel the difference right away between something that’s just… happening ... and something that actually lands.
As a speaker, I’ve started to see my role a little differently.
I’m not just there to give a talk.
And I’m not just a connector either.
I’m a curator.
I’m paying attention before I even start. What does the room feel like? Where are people holding back? What’s needed here that isn’t on the agenda? How can I change up the energy in the here and now.
And then it becomes less about delivering content and more about shaping a moment people can actually step into.
Because connection doesn’t just happen because people are in the same room. It happens when the conditions are right. It happens when people feel safe enough to listen and when something real is said - and that is often in the unscripted moments.
When the room shifts, even a little, that’s the part people remember.
It is never about the slides or the agenda. It is just that feeling of… something real happened here.
The best events I’ve been part of feel like that’s happening on both sides.
You’re curating it from your end. I’m curating it from the stage.
And when those two things meet, connection isn’t left to chance.
It’s created.
I’m curious—
when you think about an event where the room really came together…
what made that happen?
