Networking with Heart: My Conversation on Arielle The Connector

I recently had the pleasure of joining Arielle on her podcast Arielle The Connector. Our conversation was one that I believe many people need to hear, especially anyone who has ever struggled with networking or fundraising.

So often, these two words bring up anxiety, pressure, or even dread. When approached differently, they can actually become acts of service, kindness, and connection. That is what Arielle and I explored together.

What We Talked About

1. Connection before transaction
Networking is not about collecting business cards or working the room. It is about forming real, authentic relationships that grow over time.

2. Fundraising with story and purpose
The heart of fundraising is not we need money. It is about inviting people into a story where their support creates real change.

3. Lessons from Harry Potter’s U.S. launch
Yes, Harry Potter! We looked at how the launch in the United States was not just about selling books. It was about creating a movement through community, authenticity, and story.

4. Practical ways to network with heart

  • Listen more than you speak

  • Lead with curiosity and compassion

  • Focus on shared values, not just goals

  • Follow up as a human being, not a salesperson

For many of us, networking and fundraising feel intimidating. When you shift your perspective, they become opportunities to connect deeply and authentically. That is when doors open, relationships flourish, and impact expands.

I am so grateful to Arielle for this conversation. If you have been looking for a new way to think about connection and fundraising, I hope you will take some time to listen.
