For over three decades, Alan Cohen has worked with business leaders, as an executive coach, senior marketing professional and human resources consultant. As a sought-after speaker, author, leadership instructor and executive coach, he has helped and inspired senior level executives and teams to become more connected to their lives and business goals, resulting in greater performance, and highly improved business results,
Prior to starting his own coaching business, Alan served in many valuable senior-level roles in marketing, communications and human resources. Most notably, he served as the Director of Communications for The Broadway League, the national trade association for the commercial theatre industry, and presenter of the Tony Awards; and was Vice President of Talent Acquisition for MWW Public Relations, a leading global communications firm.
Alan served as Scholastic Inc.’s Director of Marketing, leading the team that promoted the acclaimed “Harry Potter” book series—and then moved to Director of Corporate Training and Development, where he established and supervised the company’s management training curriculum. As Vice President at Serino Coyne and Rogers and Cowan, Alan supervised marketing sponsorship activities for global companies including AT&T, Swatch, and Phillip Morris. As Vice President for Robinson Lehrer Montgomery, he led consumer campaigns for United Airlines, AOL’s “Find A Job” service and AOL’s Small Business and Life Management programs.
As an executive coach, Alan has worked with companies including MetLife, OnDeck, Edelman Public Relations, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and non-profit organizations including the Child Defense Fund and The Broadway League.
Alan holds a BA in English and Theatre from Connecticut College, and an MBA from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Business, with a focus on leadership development. He has also trained at the Applied Institute of Neuroscience, and Landmark Education.
He is an accredited member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and one of only 2,500 Professional Certified Coaches in the world. He was a trainer for The Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC), where he taught coaching skills to coaches seeking ICF accreditation, entrepreneurs, and to leaders wanting to bring coaching to their companies. He is certified in the Energy Leadership Assessment Tool and the Myers-Briggs assessment tool.
Author of Those Difficult Talks for PR Pros: How Best to Say What Needs to be Said to Clients, Colleagues and Employees, Alan also co-founded “The Positivity Project”, an initiative intended to create global optimism in the workplace. His new book, The Connection Challenge: How Executives Create Power and Possibility in the Age of Distraction (Indie Books International), will be available later in 2017.
Alan lives in New York City with his partner and their high-strung Wheaten terrier, Bueller.
